About The Building Campaign

This Girl Scout Council is committed to providing a Service Center that first meets the needs of the Girl Scouts we serve and second, meets a need in the community to host gatherings and meetings. The $520,000 campaign to renovate the building will secure the future of the Girl Scout Movement in Interior and Northern Alaska.

BP Building Check Presentation
BP presents the $95,000 donation check to Suellen Nelles, Executive Director and two Girl Scouts, Katie and Elizabeth for the upgrades to the BP Community Room.
Farthest North Council Service Center Upgrades Include:
Rasmuson LogoHeating and Cooling System Overhaul
The Rasmuson Foundation has provided the funds to completely replace the heating and cooling system of the building. This includes removing the inefficient furnaces with a boiler/ baseboard heating system. In addition, the ventilation cooling system involves replacing all ceiling ductwork with new piping. These two systems will be automated and synchronized to provide even heating and cooling throughout the entire Service Center. The work on this renovation began in December and will be completed by mid-January. Thanks to the Rasmuson Foundation, troops of girls will be able to enjoy the Girl Scout Service Center comfortably for decades to come.

BP Logo• BP Community Room Upgrades
BP has provided the funds to overhaul the Community Room for Girl Scouts and non-profit groups in Fairbanks to use this multi-purpose room. Thus far, the kitchen and bathroom have undergone complete makeovers. The track wall to separate the room is half is installed. Currently the baseboard heating system is being installed and then the room will receive new carpet and a new ceiling. The final renovation will include an upgraded lighting system. A big thanks to our community partner, BP for funding these upgrades.

• Parking Lot Paving with Landscaping and Retaining Wall
Adequate parking on our oddly shaped lot has been of issue since purchase in 1993. Paving the lot and adding guiding lines will double the number of spaces currently available. In addition, the upgrade will add attractive color and foliage to our corner. The retaining wall will include a decorative safety feature for building occupants on the dangerous corner at College Road and the Old Steese Highway. With the buildup of the shopping district on the east side of town, traffic is increasing along with the speed vehicles travel through the intersection.
• Conference Room Remodel
The small conference room next to the BP Community Room will be renovated to provide a private board meeting space or a childcare room during large meetings in the BP Community Room. Furniture and toys will be added to make this space useful for these purposes.
• Exterior Siding
The exterior of the building will receive a much-needed layer of insulation and exterior siding to update the look and minimize maintenance in the future. As is evidenced in the winter months, the current insulation is not sufficient and produces vertical pillars of frost.

Thank You To Our Donors
Thanks to all those who have donated their time and money to the effort to improve the Girl Scout Service Center For Her Future. Your donations and dedication will see the Girl Scout program through the next generation in a full-service center for Interior Alaska.

Here’s How You Can Help
The Girl Scouts are looking for donations to help with this project, big and small. If you can help, please contact the office at 456-4782. We accept Visa and Mastercard for your convenience. Thank you for your interest in the future of girls in our community.
