Transforming Girl Scouts Header

The Girl Scout movement launches itself into the 21st century with a new Core Business Strategy.

Since its founding, Girl Scouting has been known and admired for providing girls with vast opportunities for personal growth. But declining membership and a fading brand image led Girl Scouts of the USA—the national Girl Scout organization—to begin a thorough soul searching: Why, exactly, was this renowned organization, with such a brilliant history and so much to offer today's girls, not flourishing on all levels?

A rigorous analysis, led by a respected business consultant from Columbia University, identified key issues—and made recommendations for tackling them. In short, change was needed in every area. Only a transformation would allow Girl Scouts to retain its position as the world's leading organization for girls.

So, Girl Scout members across the nation developed a far-reaching strategy focused on five priorities:

  • delivering the world’s best leadership experience for girls
  • developing a flexible, state-of-the-art volunteer management system
  • establishing a thriving culture of philanthropy
  • creating an efficient and effective organizational structure
  • reestablishing the Girl Scout brand as compelling and contemporary
